Saturday is our Setup Day, where we'll prepare donations and set up the shopping areas. We need your assistance with setting up clothing displays by placing donations on tables, organizing items by gender and size within each designated section, and hanging designated clothing on racks.

Saturday is our Setup Day, where we'll prepare donations and set up the shopping areas. Assist the Weighmaster by placing incoming donations on the scale for recording. After weighing, transport donations to the designated sorting area so they can be organized and distributed to the appropriate sections for processing.

This is a great opportunity to earn community service hours and a wonderful way for families to volunteer together. If signing up your child, please make sure to include their information when registering.

Please join us for our annual Creek Cleanup! We need captains with skiffs, trash pickers on land, kayak, or assigned to skiffs, and land-base volunteers to help with check-in, lunch, sorting and cleanup. Anyone can participate, but you must register. All participants get a free lunch and "trash-crab" t-shirt!

FOR is pleased to partner with the Rappahannock Wildlife Refuge Friends for a Wild in the Woods Spruce-up Day. Volunteers will clean up the play areas, put down fresh mulch, replace logs, and build an eagle’s nest.

Northumberland Public Library is looking for volunteers to help with our Readers Fun Fair on Friday August 28th from 3:30-7 PM.  This event is an annual event rewarding our summer readers who take the initiative to reach their summer reading goal of 400 minutes.  Anyone can attend however and we need many hands to make it an amazing event for the community.  The event will be held at the YMCA in Northumberland County.  We need people to man the games, rides and other booths to include prizes and snow cones, popcorn, etc.

Rain date is Saturday the 29th from 10-2.

Position Overview

The Volunteer Coordinator & Administrative Support Volunteer plays a key leadership role in supporting Oak Grove Community Closet's volunteer program and daily administrative operations. This position assists with recruiting, onboarding, coordinating, and supporting volunteers while helping maintain organized records, systems, and communications that strengthen the organization's mission.

The Volunteer Coordinator manages Oak Grove Community Closet's volunteer recruitment efforts through the Volunteer River Counties platform, a regional volunteer recruitment program supported by the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), helping connect community members with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Flexible schedule with both remote and on-site responsibilities as needed.

Assist with greeting families and helping with check-in. Collecting basis data and handing out information to shop the clothing boutique-style FREE clothing event. 

In 1914, Mrs. Elinor Cochran Stewart donated 125 books to form the core of a lending library at the Gloucester Woman's Club. With 112 years of growth, we now have two public library buildings filled with books, computers, digital collections and children's resources. It's a central hub for lifelong learning in our community.

The Library Board of Trustees is looking for four more volunteers - representatives from the Ware District, Petsworth District, York District and one county-wide representative. These volunteers provide general supervision of the operation of the Gloucester County Public Library, and adopt policies as needed for the guidance of resources. Board members serve a four-year term.

Central Valley Habitat for Humanity's lifeblood is it's volunteers! We have daily/weekly volunteer opportunities as well as unique volunteer opportunities for special events from time to time. Our Construction Team and The ReStore is always in need of volunteers (Construction: M-F 8:30am-4pm, ReStore: W-Sa 9am-5pm). There are opportunities beyond that to get involved with our Critical Home Repair initiative that supports the elderly and those with physical limitations (ramp building, floor & roof repair, and other specific house repairs). We have office and committee opportunities as well for interested volunteers.

Construction is always in need of skilled volunteers with construction background, carpentry, electrical and other related skills. Our Critical Home Repair team needs volunteers from time to time to assist our team with larger projects. The ReStore has similar need for volunteers with those backgrounds and creative/artistic minds (social media, marketing, and tech skills as well).

Central Valley Habitat for Humanity's lifeblood is it's volunteers! We have daily/weekly volunteer opportunities as well as unique volunteer opportunities for special events from time to time. Our Construction Team and The ReStore is always in need of volunteers (Construction: M-F 8:30am-4pm, ReStore: W-Sa 9am-5pm). There are opportunities beyond that to get involved with our Critical Home Repair initiative that supports the elderly and those with physical limitations (ramp building, floor & roof repair, and other specific house repairs). The Gloucester Daffodil Festival has been a cherished tradition for over 40 years! We are looking for a Parade Coordinator to assist with light planning and day-of support for the parade. The Parade Coordinator will help to create an engaging and safe parade experience. Duties include:

We are looking for a Junior Miss Mentor to provide support to the court of Junior Miss Daffodil Festival contestants through their interview process and mentor/assist the Junior Miss with quarterly volunteer opportunities. The Junior Miss Mentor works year round, averaging 2 hours per month. Junior Misses are age 11-15 (Middle School). The Junior Miss Mentor will work alongside the Queen and Little Miss Mentor and must act in good faith to steward leadership and service to the Junior Miss. Duties include:

The Gloucester Daffodil Festival has been a cherished tradition for over 40 years! We are looking for an Art Contest Coordinator to lead the art competition for our annual poster contest. The Art Contest Coordinator works year round, averaging 2 hours per month, to support the contest up until the festival in April. Duties include: 

This position will have support from a team of three staff members at Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism. We are flexible to take your creative ideas to make this program your own and help it grow!

The Gloucester Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 10AM-4PM and Sunday and Monday from 1PM to 4PM. Volunteers work a four hour shift providing a welcoming environment to visitors by greeting folks, providing recommendations for local shopping, restaurants, and attractions, light cleaning and organizing brochures, and operating a simple Point of Sale system for a local gift shop. The Visitor Center is also home to a Werowocomoco Exhibit. Our volunteers typically work two shifts of their choosing per month.  Training provided. Background check run onsite. 

Opportunity to work in one of the area's best and friendliest thrift stores! Channel your inner retailer and find your happy place like many others have. Volunteers organize, itemize, then display sale items for the public to browse and shop, knowing all proceeds support the animal shelter operations, including veterinary care.  Volunteers who carry merchandise to the pricing area build muscle while getting first look at the fantastic items our community generously donates. Volunteers get a 50% discount and opportunity to have fun while helping the Friends of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter raise much needed funds. Hours and days are flexible.

Help Us Enjoy Singing

Our congregation has been singing to recorded music and would love for someone to accompany us on the piano to add  more vibrancy to the service. You would join us 1-2 Sundays per month ( more if you would like) and play hymns or songs that are selected by our speakers or music director. 

The Gathering Place provides a safe, caring, and engaging environment for persons living with dementia where each member can connect with others, participate in meaningful activities, and experience joy and fulfillment. Volunteers participate in all activities along with members to provide socialization and individual support for members with more advanced needs.

The Gathering Place meets each Wednesday from 10:00am – 2:00pm and takes place in the VPAS office conference room at 325 Pine Avenue, Waynesboro, VA

Our Senior Transportation program utilizes volunteer drivers transport older adults who do not have other transportation options, to medical appointments, grocery stores, banks, and other life necessary destinations. Volunteers may choose to drive their own vehicles or they may use wheelchair accessible vans provided by VPAS.

Volunteers using VPAS vehicles get hands-on training about pre-trip vehicle inspections, properly securing wheelchairs and do a 'ride along' with a seasoned driver to understand the most common routes and expectations.

Transportation is only offered on weekdays and the time commitment depends on your desired availability and the needs of our clients. 

Currently the need for volunteer drivers is in Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro.

Conduct an independent, fact-finding investigation of the case through communicating with the people in the child's life and/or through reviewing records. Monitor each party’s ( usually biological parents') compliance with court orders. Speak with parents, social workers, and other professionals to determine the circumstances of the child's situation. Review relevant documents and records. Visit each child once per month through in-person or virtual visits. Attend court hearings a few times a year. Participate in ongoing communication with the Advocate Manager, including a monthly report/update. Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the case. Maintain appropriate boundaries with children, families, and professionals. Submit a CASA court report and court report updates as needed ( usually around 2-3 times per year). Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is a national arts program developed for those living with dementia and other health concerns. These artists are partnered with volunteers who guide them through the process of creating abstract art. This program is person-centered and seeks to affirm the autonomy of each individual who  participates. OMA welcomes all skill levels and offers artistic success through the creation of abstract art.  All materials are provided.

This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for adults who appreciate artistic expression and supporting people with various cognitive concerns through planned and guided art sessions.

Our thrift store is more than just a shop—it’s a vital part of how we support survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence. Proceeds directly fund our services, and the store often provides free clothing, furniture, and household essentials to those in need. We rely on Thrift Store Volunteers to help sort donations, organize merchandise, assist customers, and create a welcoming shopping experience. Whether you have a knack for retail, love organizing, or just want to give back, your time makes a meaningful impact.

Screen, clean, price donations. Hand out food donations for our Pet food pantry. Many small tasks. Lots of fun guessing what some items are!!

Do you love history and love meeting new people? We need your help, especially for weekend shifts at Historic Christ Church. Training will be provided! Learn about the rich history of the Northern Neck, the Carter family, and the parish members of the historic church completed in 1735. Our team of volunteers is friendly and knowledgeable.

Amazement Square invites your family to participate in the most magical and memorable kids' race in the city! Join us before and after the run for our Family Festival featuring discovery stations, face painting, and food trucks.

Volunteers can sign up and choose to set up the event beforehand, help carry out our Family Festival, line the racecourse and cheer on the runners, and tear down/clean up afterwards.

Looking for individuals with experience working with children with autism, neurodivergence, or other support needs.

Through partnership with Centra Autism Center, this program provides a welcoming and supportive space for neurodivergent children to engage in both open-ended and guided LEGO play. Designed to encourage creativity, social interaction, and self-paced exploration, the hangout promotes a sense of belonging through shared interests and hands-on activities.

Volunteers will act as experienced support to help facilitate LEGO play for children and their families.

Program volunteers assist with the museum’s weekly HIVE programming on Saturday afternoons. Volunteers will interact with museum visitors and assist with set-up, facilitation, and clean-up of the program. Shifts are available Saturday afternoons during operating hours.

Birthday volunteers work with birthday facilitators in cleaning, resetting, and tearing down birthday rooms as well as assisting with activities during enhanced birthdays. Shifts available on Saturdays and Sundays during operating hours. Must be 16 years or older.

Facilities entails painting, staining, cleaning, setting up and tearing down from rentals, organizing facilities-related inventory, landscape care (weeds, branches, snow), and moving facilities-related items to and from storage. Shifts available Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

Gift Shop volunteers will assist the shop manager in keeping the Café Amaze clean and organized. Volunteers will assist guests with purchases which requires running our register and money handling. This would be a great experience for students who plan to run their own business! Shifts are available Wednesday - Sunday during operating hours. (Must be 16 years or older)

Gallery Attendant volunteers work with Museum Educators to help visitors explore and understand hands-on, interactive exhibits in the museum's multidisciplinary galleries. Shifts are available Wednesday-Sunday during operating hours. This is our most popular volunteer opportunity!

Volunteers play an important role in caring for cats/kittens by fostering, maintaining clean conditions, and socialization.  These efforts help improve the animals' adjustment and increase their chances of finding loving forever homes. 

Foster Volunteers offer temporary homes for those who need extra attention.  Small kittens, moms and babies, or those who need short-term medical care. 

Animal Care Volunteers maintain healthy living spaces by sanitizing kennels, changing bedding, and ensuring cats have fresh food and water.

Socialization Volunteers spend time interacting with cats/kittens through play, handling, and providing human affection to build their confidence and trust. 

Event volunteers help make our Bingo Fundraiser a fun, welcoming, and successful night for our community. Whether you’re great at setting things up, helping guests during the event, or wrapping things up at the end, your support makes a real difference.

This role is open to currently licensed or credentialed mental health professionals, including social workers, counselors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, psychiatric nurses, school psychologists/counselors, and eligible retired professionals, in accordance with Red Cross requirements.
